New DOT Campaign Takes Off

And the slogan has been officially announced.

I say it’s a great line, a great move by the Department of Tourism.  Never mind what others say about it being un-original.

It’s catchy and drives home a point which we should be sharing with others.

It’s more fun in the Philippines.

One Country, One Blogging Community

Note: taken from http://www.influentialblogger.net/2011/03/one-country-one-blogging-community.html

One country, one blogging community
A Manifesto of Filipino bloggers and netizens
March 1, 2011

We, Filipino bloggers and netizens from across the Philippines and those based overseas, coming from diverse backgrounds and specialties, using various new media outlets, hereby come together and call for the formation of a bloggers association of the Philippines that shall unite us around common and beneficial objectives and aspirations, mainly:

  • The promotion and defense of the right to free expression
  • The promotion and development of blogging, vlogging, photoblogging, microblogging and other online creative and expressive forms in all their diverse categories, topics and types
  • The gathering and sharing of Philippine blogging’s best practices that reflect our contributions to ourselves and our online communities, media, causes, organizations and businesses, government, the nation and the world.
  • The drafting and adoption of a code of ethics that underscore the community’s responsibility and maturity; and
  • The discussion of issues and concerns that confront the community and members of the community
  • The promotion of more affordable, reliable and better internet access in the country

The association we aspire to form is voluntary in character, national in scope, democratic in decision-making, and progressive in outlook.

  • We draw inspiration from and ask the participation of the city-wide, provincial, regional and island-wide associations, summits and conventions initiated by bloggers across the country.
  • We want an association that makes decisions based on democratic processes, consensus-building and mutual benefit.

A long time has passed since the first blog posts and first blogging events. We are now a bigger, stronger and influential community.

Businesses, causes and government have started to organize themselves to interact and engage with us. And we also face challenges within and outside our growing community.

The Philippines, our country and people are also expecting more from us, and we bravely and fearlessly say that we want to do more and achieve more.

In view of all these and more, we declare that there’s no stopping the formation of a most awesome bloggers association for our country.

One country, one blogging community.

An Unforgettable BPO Experience

Here’s an “unfortunate” incident of a friend who went to apply at a BPO company (ie Call Center) some time back.  True story here, but with names, dates and times changed a bit, though this was just in recent memory.

I accompanied my friend there for an afternoon interview.  My friend was informed via phone/txt beforehand that the interview was on MMDDYY with so-and-so manager at so-and-so time.  Whatever information was needed was already prepared.  We were confident that everything would turn out smoothly.

So we arrived on the dot – or even 5 minutes before. We went inside their office and looked for the contact person through the reception area. “I’m here for an interview with so-and-so manager.”

The person asked us to leave our IDs and gave us visitor’s ID.  We were also given application forms before telling us to proceed to an inner area for recruitment, where seats were available. So we did-fill-up the forms.

BTW, this was not for an agent position. My friend is extensively experienced, having been in the same industry for around 2 yrs. And the expertise is over 10 years.

The person from recruitment eventually got my friend’s docs and before even reading the whole paper, asked something like “are you applying for an agent position?” When answered in the negative, another question was asked something like “how many years experience do you have in your field?” My friend’s answer – 10 yrs.

Gee, how systematic and organized this person was.

So my friend waited.
15 minutes
30 minutes
45 minutes
1 hour
1 hour 15 minutes
1 hour 30 minutes

and so on and so forth…

and nobody came by to even update us on the status of the said interview.

And after what seemed to be an eternity, when all others in that area had already left, and the airconditioning starting to get too cold, my friend just could not wait any further.

We left, after so much time wasted. Not before complaining to the front desk receptionist, asking if the so-and-so manager was indeed around, and eventually expressing disappointment at their lack of concern and inaction.

My friend called up the person who endorsed/referred us to that company, and they got an earful as well.

How unprofessional.

If that’s how they deal with others, then that’s they way others will deal with them also.
